TWA Hotel

Every JFK traveller asks the same question first: is there a hotel at the airport? There is one, and it is this one. The 512 rooms fill two wings behind the restored 1962 TWA Flight Center at Terminal 5, a short walk through the flight tubes from JetBlue’s terminal and a free AirTrain ride from every other terminal. It is also the only JFK hotel that sells rooms by the hour, which makes it the layover option as well as the overnight one.

Guest Rooms

The rooms are in the Saarinen Wing, which faces the historic Flight Center, and the Hughes Wing, which faces the runways. Runway View rooms look straight onto JFK’s busiest runway through floor-to-ceiling glass that the hotel says is the second thickest in the world; the planes go by in silence. Historic TWA View rooms look onto the winged 1962 terminal instead. Standard King and Standard Double Queen rooms are the entry level, Deluxe rooms add the view, Executive suites add a sitting area, and two presidential suites and two- and three-bedroom suites top the range. Every room has 1960s-style furnishings, a rotary-look phone that works, a martini bar, a walk-in shower and free Wi-Fi covered by the nightly facility fee. Maximum occupancy is four; there are no rollaway beds, but Pack ‘n Play cribs are free.

Breakfast and Dining

Breakfast is not included and there is no room service, but nothing at JFK matches the choice here. The Paris Café by Jean-Georges serves breakfast, lunch and dinner every day; The Sunken Lounge in the Flight Center pours cocktails under the Solari departures board; Connie, a 1958 Lockheed Constellation parked on the tarmac outside, is a cocktail lounge; and The Pool Bar on the roof serves food and drinks year-round with a view of the runway. The Food Hall in the departures hall covers the early flight: Joe Coffee from 5:00 am, Fly-By Bagels from 5:00 am, a TWA Corner Store and Vinny’s Panini open 24 hours, plus a juice bar, Feltman’s hot dogs, Mister Softee and crêpes through the day and evening. All of it is open to non-guests.

Facilities and Services

The rooftop infinity pool is open year-round, heated to 95°F in winter, with the observation deck and Pool Bar beside it; reservations and a fee may apply in some seasons, so check the hotel’s pool page before you go up. The 10,000 sq ft fitness centre, which the hotel calls the largest hotel gym in the world, has a Peloton room with 14 bikes and a yoga studio and is free for guests. There are museum exhibits of TWA uniforms and memorabilia, a Twister room, a reading room and a shop. Check-in is at 4:00 pm and check-out at 11:00 am; early check-in from 8:00 am costs $75 and from noon $25, and late check-out runs from $50 for 2:00 pm to $150 for 6:00 pm, all subject to availability. The minimum check-in age is 18. Pets are welcome for $100 per stay of up to five nights. Luggage can be stored free for up to five hours before check-in or after check-out. Valet parking runs 24 hours at $65 a night with a reservation; see the FAQ for the park-stay-fly rates.

Day Rooms and Layovers

Daytripper stays are sold hourly from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm for four to twelve hours, booked on the hotel’s site under Book a Daytripper Stay; they are non-refundable and cannot be combined with an overnight booking, so for a late flight the hotel suggests booking the night and adding late check-out instead. Layover passengers connecting internationally must clear immigration and customs to reach the hotel and re-clear security to fly on; domestic connections re-clear security only. Our day rooms guide compares this with the hourly rooms inside Terminals 4 and 8.

Location and Transportation

The hotel is at One Idlewild Drive, on the airport, connected to Terminal 5. From Terminal 5 arrivals, follow the signs to the flight tubes; from any other terminal, take the AirTrain to the Terminal 5 stop, ride the escalator up to Level 3, cross to the garage, take the lift down to Level 1 and follow the fenced path to the fountain and the hotel entrance. The AirTrain is free within the airport, runs 24 hours and reaches every terminal in under ten minutes. To Manhattan, take the AirTrain to Jamaica ($8.75) and the LIRR to Penn Station or Grand Central Madison, about 35 minutes in all, or a taxi at the $70 flat fare plus tolls and surcharges. Our JFK to Manhattan guide has the details, and the terminals guide explains which airline flies from where in 2026.

Nearby Alternatives

Every other JFK hotel is off the airport and reached by hotel shuttle from the Federal Circle AirTrain station. The Marriott New York JFK Airport is the closest full-service alternative with a 24-hour shuttle every 30 minutes; the Hampton Inn New York-JFK includes breakfast; and the DoubleTree by Hilton New York JFK Airport is the largest, renovated in 2024.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get from my terminal to the TWA Hotel?

From Terminal 5, follow the signs from the arrivals level through the red-carpeted flight tubes into the hotel; it is a walk of a few minutes with no roads to cross. From every other terminal, take the AirTrain to the Terminal 5 stop, which is free inside the airport and takes about five minutes, then follow the signs down to the hotel entrance by the fountain. JFK does not allow hotel shuttles on the terminal roadways, so there is no bus to wait for.

Can I book the TWA Hotel for a few hours during a layover?

Yes. Daytripper stays run hourly from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm, for a minimum of four hours and a maximum of twelve, and are booked on the hotel's own site. They are non-refundable. If you are connecting internationally you must clear US immigration and customs to reach the hotel, and go through security again to fly on, so allow at least three hours of your layover for that.

Is there a shuttle from the TWA Hotel to the other terminals?

No, and none is needed. The AirTrain runs 24 hours a day from the Terminal 5 stop to Terminals 1, 4, 7 and 8 and is free within the airport; trains run every few minutes and no terminal is more than ten minutes away. Allow 20 minutes door to door for an early flight from another terminal.

How much is parking at the TWA Hotel?

Valet parking is $65 a night with a hotel reservation (check-out by 11:00 am) and the park-stay-fly rate is $65 a night for the first two nights and $45 a night after that, booked with the code PARKNFLY. Without a hotel stay the daily maximum is $75. Vans and cars larger than a Honda CR-V pay $10 a day more. No reservation is needed to park; drive to the front door and a valet takes the car.
